Franzoni Leads 3 in Top 10 for Sandburg at Charger Invite

Sophomore Emily Franzoni (Canton, Ill./Canton) tied for fifth overall and the Carl Sandburg College women’s golf team took third place as it hosted the Charger Invite on Saturday at Lake Bracken Country Club to open the fall season.
Franzoni carded an 87 for the Chargers, who totaled a 367 team score. Augustana A won the event with a 351, beating out Monmouth by a stroke. Sandburg’s total bested Lincoln (420), Augustana B (438) and Eureka (540).
Sandburg had two other golfers post top-10 finishes as sophomore Haley Guilinger (Thomson, Ill./West Carroll) tied for seventh with a 91 and freshman Jaeden Workman (Morrison, Ill./Morrison) was 10th with a 92. Madison Newton (Erie, Ill./Erie) contributed to the Chargers’ score with a 97.
Renee Scheider (Lena, Ill./Lena-Winslow) shot a 106 and Kaylyn Stearns (Gilson, Ill./Knoxville), competing as an individual, a 136 for Sandburg.
Monmouth’s Mamie Ambrosch was medalist with an 82, beating Augustana’s Rylie Schurter by three strokes.
Sandburg’s next competition is the Augustana Highland Classic on Saturday and Sunday at Highland Springs in Rock Island.
